I have a confession to make.
When I started this blog on April 5, I wasn’t 100% happy with its appearance. I’d say I was about 87% happy with it. What do I mean by that?
Well, for us folks who can’t write in HTML, Word Press makes all sorts of great goodies for us that give flexibility to the look of the blog site. One of those goodies is called “themes.”
A theme is basically the bits and pieces of what makes up the complete appearance of the blog. It’s the headers and images and widgets and fonts and colors and spaces and… well, you get the idea.
At the time I made my first post, there were about 87 themes available, and, big shocker, I looked at every single one. I narrowed it down to about 15 that I found interesting and then spent several days narrowing that down to just a few. (Yeah, I know. It’s what I do.)
Still, there wasn’t a single theme that I would have called “The One.” There were aspects of several that I wished I could have rolled into a single, stupendous (in my opinion) theme, but I wasn’t adventurous enough to try to do that on my own. So I chose one called “Light” and I lit up my new blog with it.
One of the many cool things about Word Press, however, is that there are people, Word Press people, somewhere, who are constantly inventing new themes. Since my first blog post in April, there have been about eight new themes invented. I check out each new one when I see the little announcement for it at the top of my editing screen.
And one day, I looked at a new theme called “Twenty Ten” — and there it was. The One. THE theme I wanted for ATM. It’s crisp and clean and balanced and all sorts of other cool stuff. And it’s very flexible. For example, I was able to insert my own header image.
I have to admit, though… there are aspects of the former theme that I miss. The header for instance. I liked the look and the color of it. But overall, I think this new one is better.
There are other bells and whistles to this new theme that I haven’t even looked into yet, so perhaps you will see other things just pop up when I get around to playing with the new gadgets.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the new look of the blog as much as I do.
